The EPIX original series “Godfather of Harlem” continues to build upon their hip-hop heavy playlist. Largely in part thanks to Swizz Beatz, we’ve already heard hard-hitting cuts like DMX and French Montana’s “Been To War,” YG, Giggs, and BIA’s “Waiting On Me,” India Shawn and Adé’s “Prince Hakeem,” Rick Ross and Cruel Youth’s “No Bark When I Bite,” Buddy’s “Shit Don’t Feel Right,” Lord Afrixana and DDG’s “No Favors,” Larry Lune’s “Please Forgive Me,” and Freddie Gibbs, and Shoota93’s “We Want Justice Dammit!” This past weekend, New York giants Westside Gunn and Fabolous added to the fun with “Brick After Brick,” an Avenue Beatz and Swizz-produced offering that sees the two emcees rapping about the drug game:
“I built this shit brick by brick, lick by lick, run it like Jesse Owens but my kicks by Rick, I multiplied it, now the G Wagon a six by six, shooters come with two of ‘em, treat the sticks like Twix, I’m good with numbers, I just met a chick five-six, and showed her how to stand tall, like a six-five chick, they wonder where I lay my head and stick my dick, it’s not yo’ cheese, don’t worry how I dip my chip…”
An active member of the popular Griselda collective, Westside Gunn delivered three top tier projects last year — Pray For Paris, Flygod Is An Awesome God 2, and WHO MADE THE SUNSHINE. More recently, fans have been blessed with singles from the Buffalo talent, including “Julia Lang,” “TV Boy,” and “Stain” — the last of which ended up on Peter Rosenberg’s Real Late project. Meanwhile, Fabolous could most recently be seen going up against two-time champion Jadakiss in a past episode of “Verzuz” — his last full-length body of work, Summertime Shootout 3: Coldest Summer Ever, made landfall in 2019.
Press play on “Brick After Brick.”
