Last month, Khalid made his return with “New Normal,” his first official solo release of 2021. The single signaled the beginning of a new era for the Platinum recording artist and was paired with an accompanying video expressing Khalid’s interpretation of a new normal. He now circles back around to deliver a more intimate, stripped down version of the track. In the new acoustic performance, Khalid provides his encouraging lyrics over some soothing guitar strums:
You found your way but it’s never enough, and though it’s been tough for you/ Losing touch, but ah, summer has its end sometimes, and although I can’t promise you much/ You’ll be fine, you’ll be fine
Saw you make your bed up, somewhere in the darkness/ Its hittin’ you the hardest, oh, no one predicted how far we came/ It’s not what you wanted, how fast the time goes? (How fast)
Khalid walked into this new era with lots of intention, and made sure to express a few words of gratitude when the visual premiered. “This one is really special to me,” he writes. “No matter what life throws your way, it’ll only be just a season. Always remain hopeful. ‘Summer has its end sometimes’ I love u guys! The start of a new era.”
So far in 2021, we’ve seen a few assists from Khalid, including tracks like “working” by Tate McRae, “Otra Noche Sin Ti” by J Balvin, and “Feels” by WATTS. The Texas star also landed a major collab when he assisted Alicia Keys on her self-titled album last year. The last full-length project we got from Khalid is 2019’s Free Spirit. Khalid made his successful debut back in 2017 with American Teen, which boasts his mega-hits “Location” and “Young Dumb & Broke.”
