Oscar and Grammy Award-winning producer and artist Mark Ronson released his documentary Watch The Sound on Apple TV+ today (July 30), and its official soundtrack is as elite as expected. The soundtrack boasts names like Paul McCartney, Diana Gordon, Jonsi, Gary Numan, King Princess, Santigold, and Kathleen Hanna. One stand-out contribution sees the fusion of two Hip Hop figures DJ Premier and Wale on their song “Why Would I Stop.” On the song, Wale delivers some bars about how he is different from the rest:
You like the clout, I love the game, you and I are not the same/ I’m wise beyond my years, you dumb as all your days/ Too much has happened to me, I should just pack up and leave/ Black-ballin all that they do, I got that Kaepernick beef/ Back to Back with all of the blunts
DJ Premier has been a staple in the Hip Hop world for decades. Most recently, he teamed up with Brady Watt and Westside Gunn for the freshly released “The Narcissist” track. Also this year he joined his fellow men behind the boards for “Megaton 10.” Before that was “ooh la la” with Greg Nice and Run The Jewels back in 2020.
Wale has a summer banger on his hands with his latest single “Angles” with Chris Brown. Wale has kept himself busy as a featured artist within the last few months, providing his show-stealing verses to songs by peers like Queen Naija, Skip Marley, Rotimi, THEY., Pacman da Gunman, EARTHGANG, Omarion, and Westside Gunn. More recently, he’s also delivered two new singles of his own — “Flawed,” which sees assistance from Gunna and an uncredited Young Thug, and “Good Vibes (Za).”
