Wale and Chris Brown have officially entered their offering for the “song of the summer” contender race, and they’ve got a good one on their hands. Their freshly released track “Angles” includes all the components for a sure hit: a catchy hook, an upbeat tempo ready for outside, and an “I Need a Girl” by Diddy, Loon, and Usher. They add to that recipe for success today (June 22) by unleashing the official music video, which sees the duo enjoying their time at a pool party with beautiful women as Wale spits his opening verse:
Internationally known on this microphone/ Holyfield, Ross crib, we at Tyson’s though/ Lonely nights, I’m alright, I can vibe alone/ So don’t be tired if I’m quiet, no inquiring though
I know your angles, way back then bitches show your bracelets/ Cartiers, stack ‘em for days look like Thanos, you sayin’ the universe ain’t grateful (Grateful)/ I put infinity stones on all your fingers/ Generous when I got, feelings for who I got
It’s been a couple of years since his sixth LP, Wow… That’s Crazy, which saw 15 tracks with contributions from Kelly Price, Boogie, Ari Lennox, 6LACK, Bryson Tiller, Jeremih, Lil Durk, fellow Maybach Music stars Rick Ross and Meek Mill, and more. The project was considered a return to form for the D.C. veteran, landing him at the top ten of the Billboard 200 — a sizable change from the album’s slept-on predecessor SHINE.
Since then, Wale has kept himself busy as a featured artist, providing his show-stealing verses to songs by peers like Queen Naija, Skip Marley, Rotimi, THEY., Pacman da Gunman, EARTHGANG, Omarion, and Westside Gunn. More recently, he’s also delivered two new singles of his own — “Flawed,” which sees assistance from Gunna and an uncredited Young Thug, and “Good Vibes (Za).”
