At the end of last month (June 30), Lil Yachty liberated his newest single “Love Music.” The new offering sees Yachty embracing a soft-rock sound that transports listeners back to the innocent high school days. Today (July 29), Yachty releases the official visual that perfectly enhances the nostalgic feel. In the video, Yachty spends a carefree afternoon amidst some huge fluffy clouds as he delivers his opening verse:
All I, all I ever heard was good things/ Good things about you and your ways/ All I ever do is think of you, think of you and me holding hands
At the school dance, no, no, no, we’re just friends/ Hope that we can be more, I dreamed of you last night, you had on a big old gown and a wedding ring, you were my wife/ Baby, you were my wife, baby, you run my life
Back in April, Lil Yachty dropped the midwest-oriented body of work Michigan Boy Boat, which saw him collaborating with the likes of Tee Grizzley, Veeze, Louie Ray, Icewear Vezzo, Rio Da Yung OG, YN Jay, Sada Baby, and Babyface Ray over 14 tracks. Prior to Michigan Boy Beat, Yachty dropped off his fourth studio album Lil Boat 3, which made landfall May 2020 and saw a wealth of assists from A$AP Rocky, Future, Tierra Whack, DaBaby, Drake, Young Thug, Lil Durk, and more over 19 cuts.
Months later, fans would get a deluxe edition of Lil Boat 3 — titled Lil Boat 3.5 — that added on eight additional songs and collaborations alongside Playboi Carti, Lil Baby, and Vince Staples, among others. Given “Love Music” and the recently leaked “Fuck Up My Flow,” it’s possible that a new, more melodic album from Yachty seems to be a possibility in the near future.
