Last month, Jamaican publications reported that a 20 year old accounting clerk named Khanice Jackson was found dead in St. Catherine parish after having gone missing for days. In response to the senseless death, Popcaan took to Instagram and gave his take on the matter, calling for a special brand of revenge against Jackson’s killer — that post was eventually removed from the platform due to “violence and incitement,” leading to another response from Popcaan on Twitter:
“Look like ig support rapist to unu go delete the whole bloodclath account and not just the video, and go suck unu muma!!!!!”
Last week, Popcaan followed with a new song titled “Jungle Justice (Part Twice),” a Dane Ray-produced sequel to 2017’s “Jungle Justice” that sees him speaking out against violence and horrific acts against women taking place on his island and in the world in general. He also addresses previous incidents throughout the emotionally charged cut:
“Mister government, who a go give we assistance, any minute now, me a go lift up a six pants, ’nough young girl a go missing, the list long, so much god damn unanswered question/
Where is Jasmine Dean from fi we land? Ashanti Riley from Trinidad? ’Nough girl get rape where a Bajan, ’nough girl get rape where a Lucian, woman get rape and abused worldwide, lose them self-esteem and pride/”
“Jungle Justice (Part Twice)” is the latest release from Popcaan since “Relevant,” “Cream” with Frahcess One, “Win,” “Best/Blessed,” “Memory,” and the lovers-themed Gyalentine’s EP. He also recently provided assistance on tracks like Beenie Man’s “Fun In The Sun” and Beres Hammond’s “God Is Love.” His last full-length body of work, FIXTAPE, was released back in August and saw collaborations with the likes of Drake, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Stylo G, Preme, and French Montana over 19 tracks.
