It looks like Machine Gun Kelly isn’t returning to the hip hop realm any time soon. Today, he unveils a new single titled “love race,” which features assistance from Sleeping With Sirens lead singer Kellin Quinn. Produced by Travis Barker, Jared Gutstadt, and Jeff Peters, the rock and roll number sees the collaborators singing about love and its roller coaster journey:
“I found a silver ring, and put it on my finger, I picked up my guitar, and played it for the reaper, God was a girl, the devil wore a T-shirt, love is a game and they were kissing in the bleachers, I don’t want to be without you but, I’m here, screaming by myself, I’m on the run, to get back to you…/”
In addition to the song’s release, Gutstadt — who, with Peters, is better known as Audio Chateau — took to social media to reveal some behind the scenes footage of the song’s creation:
Last year, MGK liberated his fifth studio album Tickets To My Downfall, which saw 15 tracks with additional features from Halsey, Trippie Redd, blackbear, and Iann Dior. The alternative body of work became the Cleveland talent’s best to date, landing at the top of the Billboard 200 thanks to 126,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. Tickets also spawned a few deluxe editions — including a Sold Out version with six additional cuts. In addition to Tickets, fans of MGK were also treated to loose singles like “Sorry Mama” with Phem, “Why Are You Here,” “Bullets with Names” with Young Thug, RJmrLA, and Lil Duke, and — most recently — “DAYWALKER!” with CORPSE. Presumably, “love race” is a guaranteed sign that a new release lies somewhere on the horizon.
