Last month, Russ unveiled a self-produced cut titled “BANKRUPT,” which saw him coming to terms with a certain someone that he no longer possesses feelings for:
“Okay, it’s after two o’clock in the AM, zonin’, I think it’s time to stop all the waitin’ and hopin’, for it to get better, it’s time that I forget her, it’s only been a week long, still hard to speak on, burden on my soul took a toll, had to lift it, take another sip, ‘nother puff, now I’m lifted, it’s time to move on, I stayed too long, I love you, but I gotta let you go…/”
Now, “BANKRUPT” sees a cinematic visual courtesy of JOÁN, which begins with Russ mentally checked out during a diner date with his girl. After some overnight reflection with vices in a motel, Russ can then be seen taking a drive through the desert before his car breaks down and catches fire. Within those same moments, his relationship also crumbles following a pay phone call. All-in-all, it doesn’t seem like he’s having his best day.
Since returned to the independent route, Russ has become rather prolific with his releases, blessing fans with a plethora of top quality cuts like “Give Up,” “Throne Talks,” “Take You Back” with Kehlani, “Paid Off,” “Sorry,” “I Love Me,” “Ugly” with Lil Baby, and “Misunderstood.” Late last year, he also dropped the five-track EP CHOMP, which saw additional assists from KXNG Crooked, Ab-Soul, DJ Premier, Busta Rhymes, Benny The Butcher, and Black Thought.
Russ’ last full-length body of work, SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE, made landfall in January of 2020 with 14 cuts and contributions from BIA, Rick Ross, Kiana Ledé, Devin The Dude, Benny The Butcher, and more. Months later, the Atlanta-based star would liberate a deluxe edition of SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE with seven additional tracks.
