In honor of his birthday, Russ gifted fans with a visually stunning music video for his new single “Take You Back” featuring Kehlani. Earlier this year, Russ dropped his latest project Shake The Snow Globe and followed up with the deluxe version months after.
The new “Take You Back” video is directed by Edgar Esteves, who has been on a hot streak this month, spearheading production for recent visuals like “MISMATCH” by Bino Rideaux featuring Young Thug, “BANG BANG” by Mike WiLL Made-It and Chief Keef, “SAME HANDS” by BIA and Lil Durk, and “Right Now” by Toosii. The video shows Russ and Kehlani in a number of different captivating landscapes, including a seemingly endless field of flowers and snowy mountain tops.
On the song’s hook, Russ sings earnestly about why they should give each other another chance:
“Take you back, who am I if I can’t take the heat? Take you back, let’s be real, ‘cause you’ve taken back me. This is hard, but I love you, we f**k up, that’s just life. Take me back, I’ll take you back.”
In Kehlani’s verse, she sings her rebuttal and stands her ground, expressing it was his fault things fell apart:
Take you back, why should I take you back? When you the one that f**ked this up. You the one that turned this out, and I know you that young and you rich and you gettin’ it. I’m too raw of a b**ch to be movin’ with dissonance. Nah, that’s not my mission, that’s why you trippin’.
Shake The Snow Globe was released back in January and earned Russ a top five spot on the Billboard 200 with 63,000 album equivalent units sold. Prior to that, he dropped Zoo, which was led by the well-received singles “The Flute Song” and “Missin You Crazy.”
