Last week, Belly celebrated his 37th birthday with two new tracks titled “IYKYK” and “Money On The Table,” the latter of which sees a feature from Griselda emcee Benny The Butcher. A couple of days later, the XO/Roc Nation emcee unveiled a visual for “Money On The Table,” which is produced by The ANMLS and Skinny and — as one would expect — centers around topics like money, drugs, and adversaries.
Directed by James Larese, the accompanying clip mixes footage of the artists with CGI, and continues a movement through a seemingly infinite set of rooms throughout. Multiple versions of both Belly and Benny can be seen counting money, smoking weed, gambling, and more while their bars come to life around them. It all ends abruptly with a briefcase full of what’s presumed to be cocaine comes into contact with a bullet and explodes on screen.
When it arrives, See You Next Wednesday will be the first project from a largely dormant Belly since 2018’s IMMIGRANT, an 11-track body of work that saw additional features from French Montana, Zack, Meek Mill, M.I.A., Yo Gotti, Metro Boomin, NAV, and XO head honcho The Weeknd. In a recent Instagram post, the Canadian star broke down how his mental and physical health forced him to take a need break — something that many of us can immediately relate to:
“I’ve been in and out of therapy for over a year(depression, PTSD). I gotta do physical therapy twice a week (back/neck injuries) and I can’t even tour or travel too much. I got put on anti-depressants (I’m off now) lost my confidence & regained most of the weight that I lost. Emotionally, mentally & physically, I was rock bottom. I crashed and burned.. The only silver lining in this whole situation, is that UP is the only direction left to go.”
