Last month, Yelawolf and Caskey joined forces for the joint album Yelawolf Blacksheep, an 11-track project featuring additional assistance from Cub da CookUpBoss and Three 6 Mafia alum DJ Paul. This week, the Alabama-to-Florida connection drop off a visual from the project for “Billy and the Purple Datson,” which sees production from Locke and is centered around the rapper’s unique rockstar lifestyles:
“Scotch paper, plaid pattern on the present box, quarter-pounder swag, bud, post office dropped, no creases, this motherfucker, he wrap great, hell if I know how to open up this tape, threw the seatbelt across that duffle and kept mine unbuckled…/”
Directed by Legit Looks, the video mainly shows Yelawolf and Caskey in front of a house with a motorcycle and respective crews. In addition to some indoor shots, the artists can also be seen cruising through the streets in a lowrider convertible.
“Billy and the Purple Datson” follows previously released clips for “Open,” “Been A Problem,” and “Just The Intro.” Prior to that, Caskey liberated both his Viral EP and I Changed in 2020 — Yelawolf’s last full-length drops, the well-received Trunk Muzik 3 and post-Shady Records LP Ghetto Cowboy, made landfall in 2019.
As previously reported by REVOLT, Yelawolf gave his take on “hick hop” and his position on the term as a whole:
“Hip hop is sample-based music with looping other people’s music and blending it … pulling inspiration from country music like a sly guitar or banjo could be the same … calling it hick hop is undermining the whole idea of creating Hip Hop in the first place. I think it’s deplorable and I want no parts of it. Those dudes who call themselves Hick Hop is 99.9 percent garbage.”
