Victoria Monét delivers her first release following the birth of her beautiful baby girl, Hazel. The songstress has just blessed her supporters with a live rendition of her “Jaguar” hit, the title track of her 2020 project. While surrounded by greenery, her live band, and sparkling hues of blue, Victoria sings her well-loved opening hook:
Supersonic pussycat just like a jaguar, silky black/ So let me climb your wood like that. You got nine times to come hit that/ Supersonic pussycat just like a jaguar, silky black/ So let me climb your wood like that, you got nine times to come hit that/ Walked by so fly, I made sure I took my time(Tell me, did you notice?)/ Hoping you’ll remember me. We met in a fantasy
Her most recent new single is “F.U.C.K.,” which was the first release to follow the critically heralded JAGUAR project. Back in October, she linked up with Kehlani to release the official remix of “Touch Me.” When she’s not shining in front of the mic, her pen is still busy working. Monét is responsible for some of chart-topping hits, penning recently for artists like Chloe X Halle and Selena Gomez. She was nominated for four awards at this year’s Grammy Awards for her work on Ariana Grande’s thank u, next.
When the song originally dropped, Victoria shared a few words about how the song came together, specifically about how the name of the track seemed to be a sign from above:
I honestly don’t know where “Jaguar” came from. It wasn’t like I studied the animal. That’s why I feel like this song in particular was a gift. It was like a gift from God, just like, “Okay, this is just going to pop into your head and give you a nice foundation for what you want to do.” It ended up sounding really cool and came together in the perfect way. Later on, I brought in a string player and this horn player, Arnetta [Johnson]. I was adamant about finding a Black horn player, and my friend choreographed for Beyoncé and knew one from her Coachella set.
