This month, theaters around the country and HBOMax will premiere the film Judas and the Black Messiah, which centers around Black Panther Party activist Fred Hampton and William O’Neal, the FBI informant who’s infiltration and subsequent moves within the organization ultimately led to Hampton’s death. As part of the official soundtrack, H.E.R. contributes a funky new single titled “Fight For You,” which she co-produced with D’Mile. The Golden Globe-nominated cut keeps with the revolutionary vibe of the film in regards to its subject matter, which speaks of liberation and continuing the fight against oppression:

“Mental institution causing so much confusion, seems the only solution is a new еvolution, we can’t take it no more, no, it can’t be ignored, when they knock on your door, will you be ready for war?/

Freedom ‘cause they need us, free from how they see us, freedom, won’t you free us? Freedom doesn’t hang from the trees, freedom from injustice, freedom from corruption, they aiming for destruction…/”

It’s been about two years since the release of H.E.R.’s sophomore body of work I Used To Know Her, a 19-track offering that sees additional appearances from DJ Scratch, Cordae, and Bryson Tiller. Since then, she’s released loose cuts like “Slide” with YG, “Sometimes,” “Wrong Places,” “I Can’t Breathe,” “Do To Me,” “Damage,” and “Hold On.” She also contributed the songs “Comfortable” and “Hold Us Together” to the film The Photograph and the documentary Safety, respectively.
