Last week, Craig David delivered a big announcement on social media — next May, he would be releasing his eighth studio album 22. In addition, he would also be promoting the release with an arena tour that is expected to kick off a month prior.
Accompanying said announcement was the reveal of David’s new single “Who You Are,” a Digital Farm Animals-produced collaboration with MNEK that sees the two stars singing about us all being able to express our true selves:
“I just wanna get to know you, know exactly who you are, we built it up so we can break it down, just to tear it all apart, actin’ like how you’re supposed to, a different journey to your heart, but we both know this cycle goes around, ends up way back at the start, ‘cause thе person they all see, doesn’t mattеr much to me, already know that you’re a star, but I just wanna get to who you are…”
Upon its release, 22 will follow David’s 2018 full-length release The Time Is Now, which originally contained 12 tracks and contributions from JP Cooper, Bastille, GoldLink, and AJ Tracey — a deluxe edition was later released with additional assists from Chase & Status and Ella Mai. That project peaked at number two on the UK Official Albums chart, just behind the official soundtrack for The Greatest Showman. That same year saw MNEK released his official debut LP Language, a critically acclaimed effort that featured a single appearance from Hailee Steinfeld.
