After teasing the title yesterday on social media, new music from Nigeria’s very own Wizkid arrived today (Sept 17) along with a visualizer to enhance the listening experience. The global star dropped off “No Stress,” his latest single about taking things lightheartedly.
Star Boy also confirmed his upcoming project, Made In Lagos, is officially on the way and will be released Oct. 15. We’ve already received the first single from the upcoming project, “Smile” featuring Grammy award-winning R&B star H.E.R.
Although there have been no projects, Wizkid has been far from inactive. In 2020, he was busy linking up with a variety of artists and contributing to a slew of singles, including “Escape” by Akon, “GBESE 2.0” with DJ Tunes and Spax, “Eve Bounce” by Yung L, “Consider II” with Del B, Flavour, Kex, and Walshy Fire, and more. Last year, he released his own two successful singles “Joro” and “Ghetto Love.”
One of Wizkid’s shining moments in 2019 included his appearance on The Lion King: The Gift album on one of the project’s most notable singles “BROWN SKIN GIRL,” alongside Beyonce, Blue Ivy, and SAINt JHN. Wizkid’s last full length album was 2017’s Sounds From The Other Side, which included some great features like Chris Brown, Major Lazor, two from Ty Dolla $ign, and Drake for their mega-hit “Come Closer.”
In a past interview with Vanguard, WizKid spoke on the global expansion of the AfroBeats genre in recent years:
Things have changed immensely in the last couple of years. Right now, the social media is one of the biggest platforms that have helped musicians to get across to the world generally. … It has always been my goal when I started making music to try as much as possible to touch people’s lives in many ways.
