Earlier this month saw Kamaiyah kick off her weekly Friday series with “Project Baby.” This past Friday, the Bay Area star followed up with a new video for “Go Crazy,” which is produced by Link+Up and sees Kamaiyah keeping things extra confident:
“They follow my ways, I don’t speak nothing different, I’m dope, I’m the wave like some raw out the kitchen/
Don’t step on my game, no, they wanted my position, made my own lane, I’m like, ‘What competition?’/
I’m dope, n***as snort me like a line, the folks who got no wave tryna trip me outta mine/
But I know one day, I’ll be your iconic, Even if you don’t say it, I’m in your top five/”
The visual is just as simple, with Kamaiyah performing in front of her Beamer truck, making a trip to the liquor store, and more. Both “Go Crazy” and “Project Baby” mark the rapper’s first solo drops since February’s Got It Made, which boasts 10 tracks and additional appearances from Trina, Capolow, and J. Espinosa. That project also marked Kamaiyah’s first release under her own imprint GRND.WRK, which was started following her departure from Interscope and YG’s 4HUNNID Records. She spoke on the importance of being an independent women in the music industry during an interview with VIBE:
“It’s very important and vital because a lot of people feel you need a man to make you an artist… You need a man to mold you into what you need to be.”
She also spoke on the fate of her projects Woke and Don’t Ever Get It Twisted, both of which were ultimately shelved due to various label and clearance issues:
“Anything I did at that part of my life I have PTSD from… It was done with good intentions, but then it became something negative and when you put that out, the world is going to feel that. And energy is transferable so I’m not putting out that s***.”
