Back in January, Khalid delivered his new single “Eleven,” which is produced by Simon Says and Digi and is centered around taking a ride with your special someone. The track was premiered via Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1, where Khalid explained the track’s creation:
I love making music you could drive to, and I feel like “Eleven” is, like, the perfect track to just play on your stereo, grip the wheel of your car and just, I mean, just go where the wind takes you. That’s what this song makes me feel like. This one, I just wanted to do something different. I’m R&B to my core, an R&B household, my mom lives, breathes, sleeps R&B music. So I really feel like this is the ode to, just, people who came before me. I really love, you know, it reminds me of, you know, like, that Timbaland era with Missy Elliot, Aaliyah, just where, music just felt so good that you just wanted to turn it on and drive to nowhere.
More recently, he liberated a remix of the laid-back cut which features additional assistance from fellow R&B peer Summer Walker. Today, fans get to see a visual for the upgraded cut, which is based on the iconic Fast & Furious series and shows the collaborators participating in a four-car race. Before we learn who won, the Daniel Russell-directed clip switches to a high-energy dance number.
“Eleven” and the subsequent “Eleven (Remix)” follows last November’s “Up All Night,” which acts as Khalid’s first solo offering since the well-received, chart-topping sophomore LP Free Spirit. More recently, he also teamed up with Disclosure for the genre-bending single “Know Your Worth.” Hopefully, this is all leading up to the release of a new album from the Texas vocalist.
In the meantime, you can enjoy “Eleven (Remix)” — and if you missed it, “Know Your Worth” — below.
