Toni Braxton is back. Recently, it’s been revealed that the veteran R&B star has inked a new deal with Island Records, a partnership that Island Records president/CEO Darcus Beese gushed over via Billboard:
“It’s an honor and pleasure to welcome the incomparable Toni Braxton to the Island Records family. Her legendary catalogue, unique sound and extraordinary artistry continue to set her apart. We look forward to the world hearing the new music.”
To consummate the new marriage of sorts, Toni delivers her new single “Do It,” which is produced by Antonio Dixon, and — as she revealed during her Island Records announcement — is centered around relationship scenarios where “there is really nothing more to say”:
“No more wondering why, he ain’t calling you back/
Lately, you don’t get along, you’re sick and tired of it all, you can’t take it no more/
No need to say you feel some kind of way, just do what you need to do, do what you need to do/
He ain’t gonna change…/”
Toni Braxton dropped Sex & Cigarettes back in 2018 via Def Jam, which was her eighth solo LP overall. Prior to that, she teamed up with fellow R&B legend Babyface for the well-received collaborative release Love, Marriage & Divorce in 2014. Her extensive career has spanned over four decades, and she has earned a slew of accolades throughout — including seven Grammy Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, and seven American Music Awards.
Press play on “Do It” below, which is available on all major streaming platforms. Fans can be sure to expect more from Toni Braxton soon. In related news, she has apparently found herself in some controversy for a recent post that showed her wearing a Louis Vuitton facemask — an apparent reference to the current Coronavirus pandemic.
