Seven-time Grammy award winner Toni Braxton is opening up about her battle with lupus. In an interview with E!’s “Daily Pop,” Braxton spoke about how a heart attack led to her finding out that she had lupus.
“I was still in Vegas, I had a residency in Vegas [from 2006 to 2008] and I was just sick all the time,” said Toni. “Chronically fatigued, my blood pressure was high [and] I never suffered from it. I just couldn’t figure it out and come to find out, I had a heart attack. I had to go to the hospital and that’s when they found out.”
Braxton said she told doctors that it felt like an elephant was sitting on her chest and that she could barely speak. Doctors immediately found out that she was in the middle of a heart attack.
The singer revealed that Braxton also said that her systemic lupus “loves my heart” and can “attack any organ in my body.” She said that if her face is “puffy” that means she’s on steroids to help control the autoimmune disease.
The “Unbreak My Heart” singer also said that she is using a CBD medication called Uncle Buds to help with the chronic body aching and pain.
“I found this product by default. My knees were bothering me one day and I couldn’t find my medication and I said, ‘what’s this Uncle Bud’s?’ Lemme put that on. Put it on and kinda forgot about it. An hour later I was like ‘wow, I feel great.’”
Braxton is now partnering with the CBD and hemp topical brand. The company was founded by 23-year-old Garrett Geller after he had issues with arthritis. The topical products are now sold in over 13,000 retail locations internationally such as GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, Kohl’s and Urban Outfitters.
