It looks like Top Dawg Entertainment’s Fan Appreciation Week is extending into even more new tunes for the fans. Now mere days away from May, the talent-heavy outlet follows up a recent Lance Skiiiwalker drop with a new single from the label’s president, Terrence Louis Henderson Jr. — better known by many as Punch. The track — titled “Pay No Attention To The Man Behind The Curtains” — features Nick Grant and Lyric Michelle, and sees the executive emcee in true form thanks to multi-layered bars about getting on your grind while you still have time:
“Never mind that man behind the curtain, he workin’ his magic, the cards dealt wasn’t perfect/
Shuffle the deck ‘til the right ones surface, nn the meantime, can’t shake feelings of being worthless/
The birth of my son birthed a gargantuan urge, to get it by any means, even if it means a permanent purge/
Uh, rid you of your soul or your belongings, whichever is preferred, whatever must occur, I concur/
Muster the courage to deter from the bigger picture, everything’s a blur…/”
Long-time Top Dawg Entertainment fans know that, while his main tasks involve ensuring the success of his artist roster, Punch is just as talented with the pen as the lyricists that he promotes. He’s released a slew of amazing singles over the past decade, and has provided assists for Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Terrace Martin, BJ The Chicago Kid, Bad Lucc, and more. He even has the distinction of appearing on every one of Ab-Soul’s studio albums.
