Back in October, Joyner Lucas liberated his latest project Evolution, which saw 13 tracks and additional features from Rick Ross, Ashanti, The Game, and more. This week, he reveals a new visual from Evolution for the closing cut “Like A River,” which features Elijah James and sees Lucas reflecting on his and his father’s often positive yet very turbulent relationship on the Donato-produced cut:

“I used to think that you was Superman when I was younger, findin’ comfort in your voice when I was down and under, put you on a pedestal and now I kinda wonder if that made sense/

‘Cause I’m convinced you showed a lot of colors, all them nights I was alone, I hid inside thе covers, used to argue with my moms whеnever I was stubborn…/”

The visual adds even more emotion to the single, and begins (and ends) with a youth being lifted out of the water by paramedics. The clip then flips between the child doing different things with his father and those situations suddenly changing when said father disappears. Overall, it’s a perfect match for the song’s powerful subject matter.

The video for “Like A River” follows previously released drops for “Fall Slowly” and “Snitch,” all of which are also taken from Evolution. Prior to that, Joyner Lucas released his debut album ADHD back in March, which boasted 18 tracks and assists from Logic, Young Thug, Chris Brown, Timbaland, Fabolous, and King OSF. ADHD became Lucas’ first top-ten album on the Billboard charts, scoring 39,000 album equivalent units during its first week of release. It was also because of ADHD that Joyner Lucas was able to meet with his idol Will Smith, who joined the Massachusetts emcee on the remix to his Fresh Prince tribute “Will.”
