If there’s anyone that can provide a soundtrack to sports, it’s Lil Wayne. Today, the New Orleans legend premieres his new single “NFL,” which features Young Money cohorts Gudda Gudda and Hoodybaby. The track was released in conjunction with the NFL and Amazon, the latter of who is broadcasting the league’s Thursday night football games via its “TNF on Prime” series. The track sees the collaborators mixing their usual subject matter with clever sports references throughout:
“Turn a grape head to a prune head, a snake head to a wound head, some snake heads be two-headed, got two guns for that type of s***, ballin’ like we at the Super Bowl, scorin’ touchdowns and just spike this s***/
You know the other team, they don’t like this s***, tell ‘em kick it off, n***a, here’s the tip, party ‘cause we win it every year, players can’t respect better players, ballin’ like we in the NFL…/”
The track also sees an animated lyric video to match, which shows Wayne, Gudda Gudda, and Hoodybaby as cartoonish football players on Amazon’s field, doing various poses and making plays all by their lonesome.
Lil Wayne is probably one of the busiest rappers this year, having already liberated Funeral, Funeral (Deluxe), the streaming version of No Ceilings, and Tha Carter V (Deluxe) this year alone. He’s also recently unveiled a new version of Free Weezy Album, which sees 13 of the project’s original tracks and an additional titled “We Livin’ Like That.” Although it seems less likely at this point, Wayne also hinted at the release of Tha Carter VI and No Ceilings 3 before year’s end. Either way, it’s clear that Weezy F Baby has no intentions of slowing down any time soon.
