Lil Wayne’s career has been one of the most exhilarating and interesting anyone has ever witnessed. From his tenure as a young Hot Boy and rising to his best version of goatness with his epic mixtape run as well as his Tha Carter series, he’s still (arguably) one of the greatest rappers to ever step in the booth.
Since the release of his 2x platinum album Tha Carter IV back in 2011, fans across the globe have yearned for Tha Carter V for years. With he and Birdman going through legal disputes, we weren’t able to receive C5 until 2018. Although better late than never, Wayne certainly had some records for the album that he was forced to swap out simply to match the current age in Hip Hop. Today, he gifts us with the original — yes, original — version of Tha Carter V.
Laced with 10 records, the deluxe/original version of Tha Carter V has guest appearances from 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, Post Malone, and the legendary Raekwon. During these times of classic material from our favorite artists hitting streaming services (finally), Tunechi also gifted us with the re-release of his classic 2009 mixtape No Ceilings on streaming platforms. Christmas came early this year for sure!
In a recent sit-down with Andrew Barber, Wayne’s manager and long-time friend Cortez Bryant shared that he’s working to get all of Weezy’s mixtapes on streaming platforms:
“Now with streaming, I think that we want to put out everything man, all the mixtapes,” he said. “We want everyone to hear [or have them] discover [his mixtapes]. At least that’s where everybody listens to music, so they’re not forced to go into their iTunes catalogs from back in the day of what they downloaded. We want to make sure it’s at their fingertips on streaming platforms.”
