Ahead of his upcoming project, Phora has been gifting fans with bits of the body of work to hold them over. Most recently, he shares the vulnerable track “Traumatized” and recruits Toosii, the perfect artist for the song considering he’s a rapper known for effortlessly flowing about his true feelings. On “Traumatized,” Phora penned an honest verse about his past traumas:
“I remember the days they said I ain’t deserve it. I ain’t had no food, felt my stomach turnin’, I was dead broke, I was dead broke. Numb it with thе Hennessy, my stomach burnin’. Lost the onе I loved, that’s who I trusted in. I just feel like I can never love again. Another day that pass, I lose another friend. In a city full of sharks, you gotta learn to swim. Drownin’ in my thoughts goin’ crazy, I was on my knees, prayin’ somebody save me.”
“Traumatized” is expected to appear on Phora’s long-awaited sequel to his 2016 project With Love. Prior to this, he released his linked with Kehlani on his single “Cupid’s Curse” and also with Jhene Aiko for “Stars In The Sky.” His last full-length body of work was last year’s Bury Me With Dead Roses, which acted as his first independent release since his departure from Warner Records. His two major label releases, Yours Truly Forever and Love Is Hell, made landfall in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
Phora spoke on parting ways with his label in an interview with REVOLT:
“In the beginning… it was all fun, but I was signed to Warner Bros. and… they got a new CEO, new everything. When people leave and new people come in, everything starts to change. But, it’s always all love with the people… the biggest difference is there’s no one in my ear telling me who I should be, who I should sound like, what I should do. I can truly be myself, be the person I want to be and convey that message to the world without any obstacles standing in the way of that.”
