Grammy Award-winning songstress H.E.R. is back with another tune, this time set to a beat produced by Cardiak. The new song “Damage” comes paired with a simple yet alluring tune, showing the singer giving an intimate performance of the song while singing about not being taken for granted:

“If you want me don’t take me for granted, yeah. If I’m worth more then you could manage, baby. Oh, you’re fallin’ for me, baby, I’ve caught it. We could be whatever you wanna call it. Promise that you won’t let me fall. Holdin’ me tight, lovin’ me right, givin’ me life. All night, you could be. Tellin’ me lies, makin’ me cry, wastin’ my time. The whole time, so just be careful what you take for granted. ’Cause with me know you could do damage. You could do damage.”

H.E.R.’s last full-length project was 2019’s I Used To Know Her. The 19-track compilation included features from DJ Scratch, YBN Cordae, and Bryson Tiller. In 2020, she shared a handful of singles including “Do To Me,” “Wrong Places” from Songland, “Slide” and its remix featuring A Boogie, Chris Brown, and the late Pop Smoke, and “Comfortable.” She also provided assists on Skip Marley’s “Slow Down” and Lonr.’s “Make The Most.”

In a previous interview, H.E.R. detailed how she found her voice as an artist early on in her career:

It’s one thing to be able to sing well, but another to be an artist and find your own voice within music. And that’s what the goal was for me in my teenage years. I had to find myself. As a young woman, I experienced high school and heartbreak, and the music I started to write was a little bit more poetic, and more inspired by spoken word. The real raw emotional things that sit in the back of our minds, that you were afraid to say? That’s how I started to write my music.
