The Weeknd has a revealed new look for his upcoming album, Dawn FM. The Toronto-born star, who appeared bandaged and bruised for his After Hours promo, opted for an elderly look for his Dawn FM cover art, which sees him appearing decades older than he really is.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday (Jan. 4), The Weeknd shared the cover art and pre-save link for Dawn FM, his next full-length effort that arrives this Friday (Jan. 7).
“Album cover,” he captioned a photo of himself with wrinkles, age spots and grey hair.
As reported by REVOLT, The Weeknd announced Dawn FM, which is billed as “a new sonic universe from the mind” of the singer, with a trailer on Monday (Jan. 3).
The trailer sees the 31-year-old getting kidnapped by a group of cloaked individuals and being carried into a dark room where he sees his older self.
“You are now listening to 103.5 Dawn FM,” a radio broadcaster narrates in the clip. “You’ve been in the dark for way too long. It’s time to walk into the light and accept your fate with open arms.”
The trailer also revealed that Dawn FM will feature actor and fellow Canadian Jim Carrey, who supported the upcoming effort online.
“I listened to Dawn FM with my good friend Abel [The Weeknd] last night,” Carrey tweeted on Monday. “It was deep and elegant and it danced me around the room. I’m thrilled to play a part in his symphony.”
Dawn FM will also see appearances from Tyler, the Creator; Lil Wayne; Quincy Jones; and producer Oneohtrix Point Never.
The Weeknd began teasing his upcoming project shortly after releasing his award-winning 2020 album, After Hours. Speaking with GQ, he previously described Dawn FM as “the album I’ve always wanted to make.”
“[It’s] Quincy Jones meets Giorgio Moroder, meets the best-night-of-your-fucking-life party records,” he said at the time.
