Leave to Wiz Khalifa to bless his fans with some heat before the year comes to an end. Today (Dec. 10), the Taylor Gang head honcho unveils Wiz Got Wings, a collaborative effort with Cardo and Sledgren — two producers who have been crafting hits for Wiz throughout the majority of his storied career. In addition, Wiz Got Wings sees additional contributions from Curren$y, Fedd the God, Young Deji, Larry June, and Chevy Woods throughout its 14 laid-back cuts.
One particular standout from the project is the opener “Player Of The Year,” which sees Wiz narrating the events of a pool party he’s hosting with some co-ed company:
“Look at the time lapse, you’ll see a hundred joints rolled, couple girls on the way, gotta make sure that the pool ain’t cold, bet everything else froze, celebrate wit’ my bros, ’cause I remember the times we ain’t know, shorty textin’ me, she close, she hope I got that thing from IG, told her it’s a gravity bong, few shots, but she’d rather be stoned, I got some shrooms I could put you on, and you ain’t come alone, two cones and your favorite Taylor Gang playlist, now you’re in the zone…”
This year has seen Wiz Khalifa continue to remain one of the most consistent artists in the rap game. New Year’s Day saw him liberate the mixtape #FUCC2020, followed by the Taylor Gang compilation Taylor Nights and a deluxe edition of his third studio album, Rolling Papers, in celebration of its tenth year in existence. In addition, Wiz has remained rather prolific as a well-rounded featured artist, contributing to songs like 03 Greedo’s “Substance (We Woke Up),” Problem’s “4 The Low,” Steve Aoki’s “Used To Be,” Papoose’s “Is It Worth It,” and DJ Pharris’ “Everything New,” among others.
