So far this year, Kevin Gates has dropped off guest verses and stand-out moments on tracks like “Dear God” with FL Dusa, and even decided to bless his fans with a freestyle over the AXL Beats-produced instrumental for Fivio Foreign’s “Trust.” He now makes his return this week with his latest single “Move,” which sees him taking a melodic route for a feel-good offering. The track came paired with an accompanying lyric video that features calming scenes of a beach to match the positive lyrics:
Callin’ the spirit of the jaguar, chase all bad energy right now/ Only positivity in this space, we keepin’ it sacred right now
Ваd tіmеѕ nеvеr lаѕtіng, angеlіс fоrm whеn І рut іt оn/ І’vе bееn dоіn’ а lіl fаѕtіng, tаkе hеr hоmе mаkе а ѕwееt lоvе/ Јuѕt іmаgіnе, fасеѕ thаt ѕhе’ѕ mаkіng/ Whеn ѕhе mоаn іn thе mаttrеѕѕ, wаnnа ѕеnd hеr hоmе/ Ѕhе gоn’ hаvе tо gеt hеr hаіr fіхеd/ Оught tо ѕее thе wау ѕhе dаnсіng, ought tо ѕее thе wау ѕhе dаnсіng/
Back in February, Gates dropped off his latest project Only the Generals, Pt. II, the sequel to 2019’s Only the Generals Gon Understand that contained 12 hard-hitting tracks for fans to enjoy. Since then, fans have received another mixtape, Only The Generals Part II, and a slew of well-received loose cuts and collaborations like “Still Hold Up,” “Grandmotha Grave,” “Difficult,” “Broken Love” with the late MO3, “No Security” with Fredo Bang, “Weeks,” “Wonderland,” “Power” with Dermot Kennedy, and — most recently — “Boat To Virginia” with Renni Rucci.
His sophomore release I’m Him, also made landfall a couple of years ago and earned Gates a top five entry onto the Billboard 200 thanks to 72,000 first-week album equivalent units sold.
