Kevin Gates has spent this year dropping off a series of loose tracks, giving hope to his fans that a new album is on the horizon. He adds to the slew of recent releases with a melodic cut titled “Grandmotha Grave,” which sees him delivering a long verse about fake friends, love and hate, family, and more over production from MNKN:
“Seem like the world used to love me, now all of a sudden they got a problem with Gates, I run the field like you bluffin’, that shit don’t mean nothin’, I know that a lot of ‘em fake/
I can put that in an oven, the touch of a button and all of the problem can bake, I must be guided by somethin’, I’m kinda reluctant and I don’t got nothin’ to say/
How ‘bout we get off the subject? I’m already covered and I got a cut on the plate, how ‘bout I do my lil’ doggy, the juggers they love me, they way I be pumpin’ the bass…/”
The Nicky Films-directed video sees Gates out in the desert, performing in front of a motel and taking his pickup into the hills. The video follows the recent releases “Dreka,” “Always Be Gangsta,” “Wetty (Freestyle),” and “Still Hold Up.” Gates also teamed up with Destructo for “Bandz,” which also features Yo Gotti and Denzel Curry.
Kevin Gates also recently found himself in a bit of controversy over recent social media suggestions that he might be cheating on his wife, Dreka Gates, following a certain alleged video leak. He’s since responded via Twitter, essentially not allowing distractions to stop his forward movement:
“Distractions come and go but by all means stay focused!!!! #EyesOnThePrize #StillHoldUp”
