Kanye West has enlisted Bill Cosby’s lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, in his fight to free Larry Hoover. The Chicago native revealed the news in part two of his viral “Drink Champs” episode, which aired on Thursday (Nov. 11).
“We’re putting together a new team for [Hoover],” Ye explained to “Drink Champs” co-hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. “It’s much like in the footsteps of my father-in-law, Robert Kardashian. We got the lawyer that just got Cosby out.”
Kanye has been campaigning for Hoover’s release for the past several years, even meeting with then-President Donald Trump to ask for his clemency. The Gangster Disciples co-founder is currently serving six life sentences after being found guilty of murder, conspiracy, extortion, money laundering and other crimes.
Larry Hoover Jr., Hoover’s son, also sat in on the “Drink Champs” episode with Kanye. As reported by REVOLT, he spoke about his father’s legal situation on the show.
“He has five or six life sentences. I don’t know the exact number, but it doesn’t matter ‘cause both of ‘em is horrible,” he said. “But, under the First Step Act, he deserves to come home and he qualifies to come home.”
Earlier this week, Ye posted a video message addressed to Drake, inviting the Toronto-born star to perform with him at a Los Angeles concert “with the ultimate purpose being to free Larry Hoover.” Speaking with TMZ two days later, the junior Hoover supported the idea.
“Drake, you’re a leader and leaders make decisions that people follow. And man, this would be big,” Larry Jr. told TMZ in a video interview. “… The concert thing, you know, we still working on that. [J. Prince] is dealing with Drake and speaking with him directly, so he would have to pass the information on for that, as far as him coming all the way in. But hopefully, in a few days, it’s looking good and it’s looking like he should be moving forward to maybe take part in this whole thing.”
