Back in September, Drake dropped off his sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy, a 21-track body of work that saw a slew of collaborations from Kid Cudi, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Lil Durk, Travis Scott, JAY-Z, and more. As everyone expected, the project skyrocketed to the top of the Billboard 200 thanks to a whopping 613,000 first-week album equivalent units copped. Certified Lover Boy has also since passed the million sold mark with seemingly little effort.
Today (Nov. 4), the Toronto giant decided to surprise everyone with a new visual for “Knife Talk,” a Peter Lee Johnson and Metro Boomin-produced offering that features 21 Savage and Project Pat — the last of whose words were lifted from Juicy J’s Rubba Band Business standout “Feed The Streets” and ultimately sets the street-oriented tone of the bass-heavy number:
“I gotta feed the streets, my pistol gon’ bleed the streets, ski mask on my face, sometimes you got to cheat, to stay ahead in this bitch-ah, drank syrup like it’s liquor, street life’ll have you catchin’ up to God quicker, sticker, AK-40 to your liver, let the chopper bang on you like a Blood or a Cripper, flipper, so much bread, I’m a gymnast, made so much money off of dummies…”
The accompanying video for “Knife Talk” follows a much more light-hearted clip for the Future and Young Thug-assisted “Way 2 Sexy,” which featured plenty of classic moments throughout — including a cameo appearance from NBA star Kawhi Leonard. Since that, that song has managed to top Billboard’s Hot 100, becoming both Drake’s ninth number-one on that chart and Future and Thugger’s first and third, respectively. Don’t be surprised if “Knife Talk” soon follows in its predecessor’s footsteps, as it’s already cracked the top five.
