Today, (Oct. 29), J.I. The Prince of NY has just dropped off his latest single “Taken For Granted.” The new track arrives with an accompanying visual which features a peek into J.I.’s life as an artist. Interspersed between these moments is footage from a J.I. live show, in which packed audiences sing along to his every word and go crazy for every move he makes. On the track, J.I gets introspective:
I guess they forgot about all the blood and tears, they were sheddin’ on me ’cause when I see ‘em they act like they movin’ better than me/ I shrug it off ‘cause I know they ain’t doin’ better than me and I ain’t even gotta talk about these scars ‘cause they embedded on me/ So stop it, got a bunch of dead presidents that I can’t even name in these pockets
And I walk around with that strap, you might get clapped if you try to rob me, you gotta keep it gangsta with these hoes, I ain’t showin’ love to no sidepiece (Oh, oh, oh)/ And everything I did was off the strength/ We pulled way too many muscles for us to work it out
Prior to the official release of his most recent project Hood Life Krisis Vol. 3, he preceded the drop with singles like “Excuse My Pain” and “Letter 2 U,” as well as visuals for “20k” and “Love In The Club.” The latter two songs appear on his EP Welcome To GStarr Vol. 1, released this past July via G*Starr Ent./Geffen Records and includes features from Myke Towers and Lil Durk. Most notably back in 2019, he shared his EP Hood Life Krisis Vol. 1 which includes his summer breakout single “Need Me.” The 7-track featureless project catapulted the young star onto the radars of many, allowing him to ink a deal with Interscope Records.
