There’s not a question about it that Wale is one the best, most underrated artists that we will ever witness in this industry. Since the release of his debut album Attention Deficit back in November of 2009, the DMV rapper-poet has taken the proper steps to make sure that his value was put on display. When his classic mixtape More About Nothing released in 2010, any doubt about his musical abilities went out the window and that was when he was solidified as great by many and we all knew he was here to stay. Over the course of 13+ years, Wale has not only grown as an artist, but he’s exceeded all expectations and it is truly a beautiful thing to witness. Today (Oct. 22), he releases his seventh studio album Folarin II, and it’s exactly what you thought it would be — fire.
Folarin II serves as the follow up to Wale’s 2019 effort Wow… That’s Crazy, that featured “Sue Me” with Kelly Price and “On Chill” with Jeremih. Recently, he dropped off a trailer to help promote the album. While the album trailer walks viewers through the timeline of his career, Wale is heard in the background, rapping “I do the shit that they never done, I see the shit they could never see, honestly I’m really one of one, honestly I got no company.” Although, he is as great as he is, the MMG menace feels that he is overlooked by many.
Wale spoke with UPROXX earlier this month about his sentiments: “I don’t think a lot of people know that me, Cole, and Pharrell opened for Jay-Z. We did a whole college tour … A lot of people don’t know I opened for Jay before that, even in Europe … A lot of people don’t know I opened for Rihanna in Europe. Because there was no snapchat. I wasn’t walking around with a cameraman for YouTube all day”
Check out Folarin II now and see why he will be remembered as one of the GOATs in years to come.
