This Friday (Oct. 22), Netflix will premiere the animated miniseries “Maya and the Three,” which will star a wealth of A-list actors, comedians, and musicians, including Zoe Saldaña, Gabriel Iglesias, Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, Rosie Perez, Queen Latifah, Wyclef Jean, and more. Said series contains nine episodes and is centered around the adventures of a young warrior princess named Maya.
Accompanying the forthcoming release is an infectious offering from Kali Uchis titled “If It’s To Be,” a Gustavo Santaolalla-produced track that was created in both English and Spanish. All-in-all, “If It’s To Be” perfectly matches Maya’s inspirational journey on wax:
“My fate is coming closer, will I find the one that waits? To hold the woman and the warrior lives in me today, if loving arms embrace my soul til’ I fulfil the role, that I was always meant to play? Celestials lead my way…”
Last November, Uchis delivered her sophomore LP Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios), her first Spanish language album that initially came with 13 cuts and additional appearances from Rico Nasty, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Jowell & Randy, and Jhay Cortez. Just last month, a visual for a remix of the standout cut “Fue Mejor” would surface with SZA.
In related news, Uchis is looking to take over the fashion world with her Bodied By Uchis debut collection Obsesión Denim, which was entirely produced in Colombia by local artists. She further explained her new venture to Harper’s Bazaar:
“Denim has always been such a big part of my fashion. As a kid, as a teenager, as an adult, it’s just always been something that I loved—it leaves me feeling so nostalgic … There’s so much that can be done with it, so much that can be made out of it.”
