Today (Oct. 18), Maxo Kream unveils his third studio LP WEIGHT OF THE WORLD, which contains 16 tracks and additional features from Tyler, The Creator, Monaleo, A$AP Rocky, Freddie Gibbs, and Don Toliver. The project was led by the singles “LOCAL JOKER,” “BIG PERSONA,” and “GREENER KNOTS.”
Listeners are immediately brought into Maxo’s world with the Dominic Maker and Teej-produced “CRIPSTIAN,” which sees the Houston emcee getting real about life in the streets, his gang ties, and more:
“Pray at night, ‘Like Father God, is there a heaven for a G,’ Jesus Christ could walk on water, I’ma Crip walk on the sea, dodgin’, dealin’, makin’ bills, ain’t fuck with 12 at age 11, makin’ sales with digit skills, I’ve been through hell but never heaven, gettin’ cash was the motive, what a pimp nigga told me, I heard crabs from the ocean, real Crip niggas from the sea…”
In a past interview with REVOLT, producer D.A. Got That Dope let readers into Maxo’s creative process in the studio:
He’s dope. When we did ‘The Relays’ with him and Travis [Scott], I think [Maxo] was off a pill or something. He wouldn’t stop freestyling. He was dropping all of these dope ass bars and kept freestyling. He freestyled the whole song for three minutes straight. He didn’t keep all of it. … But, after the beat went off, he just kept freestyling. He was in a zone. He’s a really smart guy who’s a hard worker.
WEIGHT OF THE WORLD follows Maxo’s critically acclaimed sophomore album Brandon Banks, which was released in 2019 and saw contributions from A$AP Ferg, KCG Josh, ScHoolboy Q, Megan Thee Stallion, and Travis Scott (for the aforementioned collaboration “The Relays”). His official debut, Punken, made landfall a year prior.
