This year has seen Pokémon fans celebrating the 25th anniversary of the franchise, complete with a big, virtual performance from Post Malone back in February. Following a few singles and a couple of quick-strike EPs, several of your favorite artists officially come together for Pokémon 25: The Album, a 14-track compilation filled with some dope contributions from the likes of Vince Staples, Mabel, Lil Yachty, Tierra Whack, CYN, Zhu, and — of course — Post Malone, who puts his own spin on Hootie & The Blowfish’s 90’s hit “Only Wanna Be With You.”
Accompanying Pokémon 25: The Album is a colorful visual for J. Balvin’s standout cut “Ten Cuidado” (or “Beware”), a Tainy-produced offering that sees the Colombian star on the hunt for his favorite Pokémon:
“Volando como Pidgeotto, a mis enemigo’ los derrotó, como Mew, por el aire yo floto, por el aire yo floto, ey, nadie me tumba el Muk, en la batalla soy má’ que tú, solo reale’ dentro del crew, con más energía que Pikachu…”
Directed by Colin Tilley, the accompanying clip for “Ten Cuidado” brings the lyrics to life, beginning with Balvin happening upon a Pokéball and turning into main character Ask Ketchum. Throughout the video, Balvin’s hangs out with Pikachu, comes across a Hitmontop breakdancing for a crowd, and gets set ablaze by a Charizard — only to wake up from what turned out to be a dream at the end. Or was it?
Via press release, Vice President of Marketing Colin Palmer spoke further on the release:
“The release of Pokémon 25: The Album marks the culmination of a yearlong music celebration of Pokémon by an amazing array of global artists … From Katy Perry and Post Malone, to today’s release of J Balvin’s contribution to the album, all of the artists brought a unique perspective to this collection, which we hope brings music fans as much joy as Pokémon has delivered for 25 years.”
