Back in January, J. Balvin announced that he was releasing a new album this year — the presumed sequel to his 2013 debut LP La Familia. Having remained on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart for a whopping 122 weeks, the top ten scoring La Familia also earned Balvin a five times Platinum certification in his home country of Columbia, and earned Gold and Platinum plaques in other nations around the world.
To date, we’ve already heard a few high quality cuts that’s presumed to be from Familia 2, including “Tu Veneno” and “Ma’ G,” along with a snippet of the Zion and Lennox-assisted “Cero Sentimientos.” Now, Balvin liberates a new single titled “Orta Noche Sin Ti” (or “Another Night Without You”), which features an assist from Khalid and centers around a physical longing for a certain someone:
“Been a while since I’ve seen your face, when you know it gets lonely in LA, thinkin’ of you every day, say the word, I’m on a one way, first I gotta follow your lead, listen to whatever you say, and act like I’m okay, why you want to cause my pain, when you know I’m sorry?/”
Directed by Colin Tilley, the accompanying clip for “Orta Noche Sin Ti” begins with the collaborators taking a stroll through a dark, wooded area, eventually happening upon what looks like an old, wrecked ship. A dancer can also be seen moving to the music in beautiful, seamless fashion.
Balvin’s latest full-length album, Colores, was released last year and saw 10 cuts with a couple of contributions from Mr Eazi and Sky Rompiendo, the latter of whom handled much of the album’s production. Colores is easily Balvin’s biggest album in the United States to date, peaking at 15 and 2 on the Billboard 200 and Top Latin Albums charts, respectively.
