Young Thug is one of many artists who secured a feature on Kanye West’s Donda, but it turns out, his appearance on the album may have been the result of a threat he posed to the Chicago producer. During a recent interview with Complex, the “Pick Up the Phone” emcee said that he warned Yeezy that their friendship would come to an end if he wasn’t asked to jump on the project.

“I just hit Kanye like, ‘Bro, if I ain’t on the album, we are not speaking,’” he explained before sharing one of his favorite things about Ye.

“What niggas don’t know about Kanye West is he’s a real nigga,” he said. “He’s a billionaire, and all that shit is cool, but in real life, he could survive in the trenches. If he go to the trenches, the jungle, he could survive. He a real nigga.”

Following Thug’s ultimatum, he and Yeezy got together to record their song, “Remote Control.” Amid the interview, he clarified that his contribution to the project was not inspired or instructed by Kanye.

“You can’t instruct me,” said the “Lifestyle” rapper. “You can’t give me instructions, and I am saying that humbly. I understand music. I understand life. I understand everything. I understand that this car is bigger than the car in front of us. I understand that a motorcycle could never beat this car. I understand the way the universe works, so you don’t have to talk to me about certain shit.”

“I feel like niggas like Kanye West and JAY-Z and fucking Quincy Jones and James Brown, and if Michael Jackson and Prince were here…,” Thug continued. “Them niggas understand that about me. They trust me.”

While Thugger received no guidance on his collaboration with Kanye, he revealed that he helped coach Drake and Future as they recorded “Way 2 Sexy” — a song he supposedly inspired. “​​I think I was fresh as hell, and that nigga Pluto was like, ‘Man, you on some sexy shit today. You coming in with your lotion on…,’” he said. “Then we just started making music.”

“‘2 Sexy’ is one of those songs that I coached,” he continued of the song, which peaked atop the Billboard Hot 100. “Him and Drake feel the same way, like, ‘Damn, without Thug on this, there is no possible way this song could have even came to be.’ Without Future, we couldn’t have this moment to even create this sound, and I wouldn’t have even noticed that what I was doing was too sexy that day. And without Drake, the song probably wouldn’t have gravitated to being No. 1.”
