Eminem is set to serve his mom’s spaghetti to Detroit locals next week, according to a commercial that is currently airing throughout the city.
The 30-second spot was reported by The Detroit News, which stated the ad ran at least twice Friday (Sept. 24) on WXYZ (Ch. 7). Within the commercial, the multi-platinum selling rapper hovers over the Detroit skyline and vomits a carton of his mom’s famous spaghetti into the Detroit River. The comedic clip serves as promotion for the actual Mom’s Spaghetti restaurant that will be located at 2131 Woodward Ave. in Detroit.
Em’s spot will serve cartons of spaghetti with or without meatballs, and offer a s’ghetti sandwich — a panini pressed garlic bread sandwich with cheese. The theme, of course, is derived from a lyric on the Detroit-bred rapper’s track “Lose Yourself” from his semi-autobiographical film 8 Mile.
“His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy/ There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti,” Em raps.
A voice recording tied to the (313) 888-8388 phone number mentions there will also be a “store for Stans” known as “The Trailer” outside the restaurant. The Detroit News reports Mom’s Spaghetti initially showed up in the city in 2017 as a pop up in promotion of Eminem’s ninth solo studio album Revival. At the time, some lucky fans were able to meet Em, purchase remaining stock of 8 Mile 15th Anniversary Carhartt gear, and cop exclusive Revival merch. Shady also donated cups of Mom’s Spaghetti to Detroit frontline workers at several hospitals last year as COVID-19 crippled the city.
It’s unclear whether this is another pop-up planned to promote a project or if Mom’s Spaghetti will stick around. Michigan restaurant group Union Joints, which also organized Em’s previous Mom’s Spaghetti pop-ups, will host this one at their newly-opened Union Assembly location.
