Without a doubt, Kanye West has been one of the most unique, creative, and iconic artists over the last decade and a half. Given his clear influence on not only the music industry, but in the fashion world as well, Kanye was destined for the level of greatness he’s reached today. Of course, in recent times he’s been highly ridiculed for his controversial opinions on topics such as slavery, openly supporting former U.S. President Donald Trump and more, there were many individuals showing their disdain for the Chicago artist by “cancelling” him. As we all know, cancel culture isn’t all what it’s hyped up to be these days. Like the legendary Jay-Z once said “First they love me, then they hate me, then they love me again.”
Today (Aug 27), Kanye West adds on to his legacy with the release of his highly anticipated 10th studio album DONDA (named after his late mother).
As we all know, Kanye is one of the best (if not the best) at album rollouts. While he’s known to maneuver in mysterious ways that keeps our minds wondering, this time around, the billionaire mogul had the world in the palm of his hand — without saying a single word. If that’s not power, what is?
Speculations surrounding the album started when he hosted a private, invite only listening party in Las Vegas. News came from internet sensation Justin Laboy stating that Ye had the album of the year along with this announcement via Twitter: “Kanye played his new album for me & @KDTrey5 last night in Vegas. Man listen! The production is light years ahead of it’s time, and the bars sound like he’s broke & hungry trying to get signed again. Any artist who plan on dropping soon should just push it back #Respectfully”
Including features from artists like Lil Baby, Pusha T, Griselda, Lil Durk, Kid Cudi, Baby Keem, Travis Scott, Tyler, The Creator and more, DONDA is one for the books.
