Pusha T is a competitive guy, but even he knows when he’s got to give it up—kind of.
Earlier today (July 16), Pop Smoke’s second posthumous album, Faith, hit streaming services, and on the Kanye West and Pusha-assisted “Tell The Vision,” Pusha says that Tyler, The Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost LP is the album of the year—for now.
“Look, Tyler got the album of the year, for now/But Pop about to drop, I see the platinum in the clouds/Now Push about to drop, so real trappers stick around/The crown is only for the king, they tryna place it on a clown,” Pusha raps on the song.
Now, Pusha’s bars are filled with some bold proclamations on a few fronts. For one, he clearly says that Tyler’s album is the best, but he adds the caveat that Pop Smoke’s LP was about to be competition and quite possibly go platinum, and then he mentions that he himself is “about to drop.” Could a new Pusha album really be incoming? Possibly. After all, he’s been in the lab for a while.
During a May 2020 Reddit AMA session, Push told one particular fan that he was working on his new album, as well as two other projects. “I’m actually working on three projects right now,” King Push said. “So, you know, with everything that’s going on in the world right now, of course we’re not all together. But I’m well in on my next project.”
At another point during the AMA session, Pusha said that he was working on some collaborations with Madlib. At this point, those comments were a long time ago. But Daytona was pretty dope, and with Pusha taking his time on his latest batch of new tunes, this one should be great too. When he last spoke on the LP this past March, he said it would be his best yet.
