Images of signs left on the front steps of Kanye West’s actual childhood home surfaced on social media Saturday (Aug. 28), TMZ reports. The posters eerily promote Drake’s upcoming album, Certified Lover Boy, and disparage both ‘Ye and “Respectfully Justin” host Justin Laboy. One sign directly references lyrics from Drake’s verse on Trippie Redd’s new track “Betrayal.” “45 44 Burnt Out,” the sign reads, referencing Drake’s rumored diss.
“All these fools I’m beefin’ that I barely know. Forty-five, forty-four (burned out), let it go,” Drake raps in the song. ‘“‘Ye ain’t changin’ shit for me, it’s set in stone.”
The signs showing up on Yeezy’s old South Shore Chicago house is the latest stunt in an ongoing feud between the veteran rappers. Earlier this week, Kanye shared an image that included Drake’s address on a since-deleted Instagram post. In a previously deleted IG post, Kanye shared screenshots of a group chat containing eight other people. He added Pusha T to the conversation and sent a picture of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, then wrote: “I live for this. I’ve been fucked with by nerd ass jock niggas like you my whole life. You will never recover. I promise you.”
On Friday (Aug. 27) morning, SportCenter was interrupted by a hooded figure — purportedly Drizzy — who held up a cardboard sign that read: “CLB. September 3.” The date also happens to be the same as the one currently listed on Apple Music for Kanye’s Donda release.
It’s unclear who exactly left the signs at Kanye’s old house or why they did it. Leading up to Sept. 3, there could be some sort of retaliation by Kanye before both albums drop. ‘Ye purchased the house his mother owned in 2018 for about $225,000, according to The Chicago Tribune. His longtime collaborator Rhymefest bought it in 2016 and planned to turn it into a community arts incubator. However, that plan never materialized.
The Tribune reported that Donda West sold the house for $121,000 in 2003, less than a year before Kanye released his debut studio album, The College Dropout.
