Drake is hard at work putting together his sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy. As fans wait anxiously for the long-delayed project to emerge, details about its possible features or collaborators have been hard to come by. However, The Alchemist may have given fans a clue about what they can expect.
During a Q&A session with Twitter followers on Tuesday (Aug. 17), the mega-producer confirmed that he recently sent some instrumentals to Drizzy for his consideration. The collaboration was revealed online after a fan asked Alchemist: “Have you sent Drake a beat or has he asked?” On Twitter, he simply replied: “Yes & yes.”
This is significant because, while Drake has worked with many esteemed beatsmiths throughout his career, he’s yet to have a hit with the Mobb Deep collaborator.
While it’s unknown if Drizzy has already recorded a song using one of the beats, fans are hopeful that a Drake and Alchemist joint will land on Certified Lover Boy. Alchemist is known for his gritty rap production and has supplied numerous beats for Freddie Gibbs, Curren$y, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Jadakiss and more.
Earlier this week, Drake revealed his own Certified Lover Boy rollout update, which had to do with his signature album hairstyle. After a fan joked that the 34-year-old’s heart-shaped cut looked “stressed,” Drake explained that his hair was having a difficult time growing out since he contracted COVID-19.
“I had COVID that shit grew in weird I had to start again,” he responded to the fan on social media. “It’s coming back don’t diss.”
Last month, Drake also assured fans that Certified Lover Boy is “on the way.” “Album’s cooked,” he added. “Looking forward to delivering it to you.”
