The Kid LAROI reaches another major career milestone.
On Monday (Aug. 9) Billboard reported that LAROI’s Justin Bieber-assisted song, “Stay, secured the the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It previously peaked at No. 3 on the chart. This is LAROI’s very first No. 1 single. The song marks Bieber’s eighth.
Released in July, the song combines elements of new wave, pop rock, and hip hop. On the track, the F*ck Love artist and Bieber plead for their lovers to stay by their side. “I get drunk, wake up, I’m wasted still/I realize the time that I wasted here/I feel like you can’t feel the way I feel/Oh, I’ll be fucked up if you can’t be right here,” LAROI sings on the song.
With spurts of exasperated crooning, impassioned lyrics and a distinctive beat, the track was always going to do really well. Now, it’s obviously hit No. 1, and there’s a chance it stays there for a while.
The track is one that belongs to F*ck Love 3: Over You, a deluxe edition of LAROI’s F*ck Love mixtape. After dropping a deluxe edition of F*ck Love 3: Over You that included an additional six songs, the LAROI earned the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart. In a reaction to the news, he gave credit to his fans.
“WTF,” LAROI wrote in a tweet responding to Chart Data, who reported the news. “I FUCKING LOVE YOU FAM WOWOWOWOWOW LIFE IS NOT REAL.”
These No. 1 placements are just the latest steps in the rise of LAROI, an Australian artist who’s showcased a knack for alchemizing pained melodies and a willingness to be open into infectious bops. The singer, who is managed by Scooter Braun, has seen his profile raise significantly over the last year. In 2018, he unloaded 14 With a Dream, a project that offered up a preview of what fans could eventually expect. Last year he consummated his rise with F*ck Love, and obviously, he’s only kept going up.
