Last month, Curren$y and his Jet Life collective liberated the compilation Welcome To Jet Life Recordings 2, a sequel to last December’s Welcome To Jet Life Recordings that sees 14 tracks with contributions from Blu, OG Maco, Jay Worthy, T.Y., Pretty Yellow, Black Cobain, and more. This week, Curren$y & Co. deliver a new visual from the project titled “Hit A Lick,” which also features Fendi P and Rob49 and sees the artists rapping about their wealthy, care-free lifestyles over production from David Morse and Trauma Tone:
“Hit a lick and bought some land, put a mansion on top it, put some hot wheels in front of it and dock the boat behind it, I’m in the house, I’m laying low, they think I killed somebody, I’m blowing that fire watching Scarface feeling so inspired, I’m blowing that fire watching the Godfather feeling so inspired, I’m blowing that fire watching Layer Cake feeling so inspired…”
Directed by Shula The Don and Two Seven Films, the accompanying clip for “Hit A Lick” brings us to the city of New Orleans, where Curren$y and his compadres can be seen in a studio, smoking weed and enjoying the vibes while beautiful women count stacks of money as it enters the establishment. All in a days work for an organization who’s been blessing us with top tier music and more for a better part of the century.
Last year saw Curren$y liberate enough bodies of work to fill another rapper’s entire career, including The Tonite Show with Curren$y with DJ Fresh, Spring Clean with Fuse, The OutRunners with Harry Fraud, The Director’s Cut with Harry Fraud, Smokin’ Potnas with Fendi P, and the aforementioned Welcome to Jet Life Recordings. This past February, he dropped off his latest LP Collection Agency, which saw 10 cuts and a single assist from Larry June.
