Don’t look now, but it looks like the world could soon be getting a new project from The Weeknd. This afternoon (July 13), Weeknd jumped onto Twitter and posted a few tantalizing messages for fans looking for his new music. In the tweets, he all but confirms that a new collection of Weeknd tunes is on the way.
“Massaging it now, being sweet to it. giving it some tlc,” he wrote in one tweet. “Just so there’s no confusion, it’s a full body of work,” he continued before issuing a message about his forthcoming tour. “The tour is gonna be MADNESS.”
Now, Weeknd doesn’t get into any more specifics but really, does he need to? It’s been well over a year since he released his critically acclaimed After Hours album, a project that debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart after its release. While that’s not exactly a long time, it would also be totally normal for him to want to serve up new tunes for fans. They’ll just have to wait and see what he says next.
This news arrives after The Weeknd was named as one of the performers for Global Citizen Live 2021. He views the opportunity as a chance to shed light on the plight of Ethiopia, the country his parents migrated from before he was born in Canada.
“It is very important to me to be a part of this historic event to spread awareness and encourage action toward helping the people of Ethiopia during this devastating humanitarian crisis they are faced with,” the Weeknd said in a statement. “It’ll be an honor to perform and help bring support to these citizens who are suffering so severely.”
