2020 was an amazing year for Joyner Lucas. First, he released his official debut LP ADHD, an 18-track body of work that saw additional appearances from Logic, Young Thug, Chris Brown, Timbaland, Fabolous, and King OSF. He then followed that up with Evolution, which saw 13 new cuts and more assists from the likes of The Game, Ashanti, Elijah James, and Rick Ross. Today, the Rozay-assisted cut — “Legend” — gets a dope new visual for fans to enjoy.
Produced by DillyGotItBumpin, “Legend” sees Lucas reflecting on all that he’s accomplished in his career in spite of his past struggles:
“I wonder where life would probably take me, yeah, won’t break me, yeah, I show some love to niggas who hate me, yeah, that’s crazy, yeah, I kept my cool without no AC, yeah, got somethin’ to prove, I jumped in the pool and now I’m wavy, yeah, and lately, I’ve been tryna hold my blessings, you talk to God, but you don’t know the message, those are lessons…”
Directed by Ben Proulx and Lucas himself, the video for “Legend” is filled with clips of the Massachusetts star at different stages of his younger life, showing that he’s been working hard to succeed in music through virtually all of it. In between shots of him showing where he grew up, performing in talent shows, and freestyling on the block, viewers can also see present day Lucas politicking with T.I., while the Atlanta icon’s son and formidable talent Domani hangs in the background. Rick Ross makes his appearance alongside Lucas in what’s presumed to be a green-screened paradise — a spot in the middle of a clear body of water with the clear skies behind them. At this point, it would be crazy to expect anything less than superb from a Joyner Lucas video.
