In the past few weeks, Mount Rushmore conversations have sporadically dominated social media, sparking impassioned debates between avid hip hop fans. Fetty Wap told his followers that he deserved to join Juice WRLD, Lil Uzi Vert and XXXTentacion in the SoundCloud list because he influenced others to start an account on the platform when he released his hit single “Trap Queen.” Fans chose Nicki Minaj to be the fourth face on the 2010s Mount Rushmore next to J. Cole, Drake and Kendrick Lamar, and most recently, social media users bumped heads as they discussed their thoughts on My Mixtapez’s decision to place Jeezy, Future, Rich Homie Quan and Lil Baby on the G.O.A.T.s of Atlanta Mount Rushmore.

Unfortunately, Migos haven’t been mentioned in many of the conversations, but they believe they know the reason why. During a recent interview with The Shade Room, the group — who is promoting their newly-released Culture III album — shared their beliefs that they’ve been excluded from most best rappers lists because they’re a group.

“They count us out cause we in a group,” Takeoff said. “Say for instance, they say, ‘Name your top five rappers.’ They really count us out cause we in a group,” Offset added before recalling the time they were blocked from being XXL freshmen. “During the time, we couldn’t be on it ‘cause we was a group, and they don’t do groups. It should be a little circle with all three heads…on that Mount Rushmore. Cause we done birthed a lot of this.”

“Ya’ll talking eras,” Quavo chimed in. “We been it for the last five years. You gotta throw us in there.” He added that Migos generally deserve to be credited for their contributions to rap.

“They don’t ever give us credit for the flow, the flow we created,” the “Workin Me” emcee said. “We created this new genre of great music. Great artists came out because of the flow. If you take us away from the game, you’ll see the apocalypse or something…It ain’t necessarily about the sound…We saying [that] our cadence is the same. It got some similarities.”
