Russ continues to drop off loose singles for his fans to enjoy. His latest is this past weekend’s “STATUS,” which sees production from Nami, Teddi Jones, and Russ himself. As far as subject matter, this track sees Russ boasting about his self-made success and current lifestyle:
“This a classic beat, I got a fleet of these, I’m lookin’ at my bucket list like, ‘Goddamn, I completed these,’ and, yes, my life’s a movie, girl, you just in the deleted scenes, I kick you out my life if I don’t like the way you treatin’ me, I put my phone on DND, young G-O-D, a deity, I easily believe in me, then dreams become my scenery/”
“STATUS” follows an album’s worth of dope cuts from the Atlanta-based talent, including “Give Up,” “Throne Talks,” “Take You Back” with Kehlani, “Paid Off,” “Sorry,” “I Love Me,” “Ugly” with Lil Baby, “Misunderstood,” “BANKRUPT,” and — most recently — “SMALL TALK.” He could also be heard contributing to songs like Trippie Redd’s “The Way,” Queen Naija’s “Without You,” and Blxst’s “Fck Boys” in that same time frame.
Russ’ last project was the November drop CHOMP, a five-track EP that saw additional features from KXNG Crooked, Ab-Soul, DJ Premier, Busta Rhymes, Benny The Butcher, and Black Thought. Prior to that, be blessed the masses with his third — and final — major label LP SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE, a 14-song body of work with assists from Rick Ross, Bugus, Kiana Ledé, Benny, Devin The Dude, and Bia. Months after that release, a deluxe edition of SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE would surface with seven more tracks and added collabs with Ty Dolla $ign and Westside Boogie. Given his increased output upon return to independence, it would not be a surprise to see a new album somewhere in the near future.
