Can you imagine H.E.R., Kehlani and Zendaya in a girl-group?

The ladies apparently were almost a super-group when they were younger, according to H.E.R. The Grammy award winning songstress recently spoke with OZY founder Carlos Watson on his new show “The Carlos Watson Show,” where she discussed the missed opportunity.

“Dylan Wiggins – who is D’wayne Wiggins’s son from Tony! Toni! Toné! – we used to be in a band together,” H.E.R. said. “We used to perform together when we were really young. Kehlani was actually in our band. We all used to sing together. Zendaya was going to be in it at one point. They all grew up together. I came into the picture in Oakland and we used to perform together.”

Eventually, the girls went their separate ways. Kehlani stayed in the group, which was called Poplyfe, while Zendaya started her acting career in local plays before joining the cast of the Disney channel sitcom “Shake It Up.”

H.E.R. also spoke about performing with Kehlani in Poplyfe during a 2019 interview on “Big Boy’s Neighborhood.” “We used to sing Jazmine Sullivan’s “Need You Bad,” Prince’s “Pop Life,” and Beyoncé’s “If I Were A Boy.”

H.E.R.‘s proper path to stardom started in 2011. When she was 14-years-old, she signed a record deal with Sony’s RCA Records. However, she didn’t release her debut project, H.E.R. Vol. 1, until 2016.

Since then, her career has taken off. She has four Grammy awards, and her song “Fight For You” from Judas and the Black Messiah earned the Bay Area diva her first Academy Award for Best Original Song.

The 26-year-old vocalist from Vallejo has created hit songs with Cardi B, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Jazmine Sullivan and Jhené Aiko, among others.

The 2021 OZY Fest is scheduled to stream live on Saturday (May 15) and Sunday (May 16) at ozyfest.com. H.E.R. will headline the show on Sunday and participate in a “How Music Moves Mountains’’ conversation to close out the virtual event at 8:30 pm ET.
